The Novi Jaguars Under 8 Boys Black team were crowned Champions of the Novi Jaguars Invitational and the World on a rainy Sunday May 11, 2008. The boys overcame all obstacles with a never-say-die attitude and the idea of bringing home the title in honor of mum on this being Mother's Day.
In the finals, a pivotal role was played by the first and second half goal keeping exploits of Ryan Silberg and Tony Rizzo; in front of them was the dominating play provided by the center back Dominic "Dominator" Gatson. The rest of the boys were asked to play more diverse roles as the coach rotated them as outside defenders and targets (Aidan "I can pass and dribble" Jennings, Adam " I am a double threat now with flashy moves and ability to recognize the pass" Dellavecchia, Adam "Small in stature mighty in speedy, heart and attitude" Silberg, D.J. "Hard Nosed" Hooks, Avi "The flash" Bedi, and Harry "Didier Drogba" Jones).
One player is quoted as saying, “I prefer playing up top but in our team's system it is just as easy to get on the score board there as it is to make a flashing run out of the back and put one in the back of the net. I guess you could say I score goals and dance - that's what I do and I am fabulous at both. I’m quite good looking too".
The superior coaching and dubious haircut of Scott Lemay were over shadowed by the brilliant play of this group of boys but were deservedly recognized by all.
The group originated from the Jr. Jags. Organization - special thanks to Mike Scobie, Youth Director.
